Funny video, but this idea has been vetoed in record time! I like those fingers. If the iphone 4 reception sucks that much I can buy you a fanny pack so you can carry the video camera and point & shoot with you everywhere you go. And If video conferencing becomes a big deal, you can start carrying your computer with you too.

Besides then you couldn’t flash the ILY sign at Kaden. :)

Ive been thinking a lot about this too as I start dusting off my own blog. I went through and deleted all the pictures of my kiddo off Facebook awhile ago. On the blog, I like sticking to generic nicknames. Wife, Husband, Dog, Cat, and now Boy. Plus when I say “Boy” it makes me feel like Homer Simpson. And who doesn’t like that?

Hi RC – congratulations on the new role at your church. Sounds exciting!

I think public v private is basically answered if you know the purpose of your blog.

The precautions I take are: my surname is nowhere on my site or blog email, I do not identify my location too specifically, including obvious local landmarks, and two of my children’s names are unique, so I have modified them on my blog. I also do not add information that might at some point have a negative impact on the employability of anyone in my family (e.g. at one point I had a health problem that could have been serious, and I didn’t speculate about it on my blog).

That said, my aim is to be real. In a small way I feel that I’m ministering to others (beyond the grandparents’ insatiable desire for pictures), and I feel that requires depth and honesty.

May God grant you wisdom as you find the right balance for you and your blog.

Thanks Jessie. I was looking at the 13 inch macbooks, but wasn’t sure if they’re powerful enough or if I should shell out the extra money for the pro. The other trick with getting a mac is that I’d need to get Parallels so that I could run Windows since our copy of Photoshop & Premiere is the windows version. But that seems reasonable. Have you done much with video on your macbook?

Buy anything with an Apple on it; you can’t go wrong. After spending three and a half years with the 13″ Macbook, my next laptop will probably be the 15″ Macbook Pro, solely for the extra screen real-estate.

I like the size of the 13″ because it’s easy to carry and use on your lap/table/desk but sometimes I’d like more screen area, especially for development.

Hey RC – welcome back to blogging! :) Hooray for our Father who is eager for us to cast all our cares on Him. And double hooray since He can actually do things to help us.

So many blessings and challenges with littlies in the house. My best (unsolicited!) advice is to take things really really slow. The world is out there when you want to rejoin. Vi is 9 weeks old, and I only just started going back to my Friday morning playgroup. I was dying to get out of the house, so I knew it was time. It’s different for every parent, every family, but I know taking it slow relieves a lot of stress for us.

Hey, googled you guys to find your life at a distance page and I found your blog. I haven’t talked to you guys in a while.
The small group thing is a real issue, we struggled with the very issues you have laid out here. Having a baby can be isolating at times, it’s hard to balance it with time as a couple. We didn’t do a small group for a LONG time after having kids. Taking the kids with you is not so much fun, you can’t focus on each other and the group. However, now we are in a small group together….we hired our next door neighbor girl to watch the kids, and we also recruited Gigi (grandma). Eric also does a group with the men now at our house, and I just pack the kids up and go visit my mom…..which I know Kassy can’t do. But not having a small group for so long left a hole in us, and it nagged at us incessantly.
One idea may be that youth from your church could gain credits towards a youth trip by babysitting for couples on the nights of small groups. Hope this helps…..I’m going to try and call Kassy now…..
