About RC

<personal>

I’m a card carrying member of the Nintendo generation, and I still love playing classic video games like Galaga, Zelda, and Mario Bros when I can. My wife Kassy and I have two little boys who are the light of our lives and consume just about every waking moment, and more often than not some of the “should be sleeping” ones too. I enjoy reading graphic novels, currently I’m enjoying Jeph Loeb’s take on Superman/Batman, although I have definitely really enjoyed some of the works of Frank Miller as well. I definitely love my new technical gadgets, although I’m rather frugal and so I tend to be a mid to late adopter on a lot of things (I didn’t get an HDTV until Christmas 2009).

I’ve been a software developer for the past seven years, and only recently (Spring 2010) moved into software management. I’ve worked on a lot of interesting projects over the past seven years, and interestingly enough a lot of what I have done has revolved around search engines. When I was at National Instruments I worked on a series of internal projects to inject additional metadata onto our existing content pages and then subsequently harvest that data to build a hybrid structured, hierarchical faceted navigation system that could be applied to any (and nearly all) content in the Fast search index.

Since joining Bazaarvoice in 2003, I’ve worked on a myriad of projects ranging from extremely custom, heavy lifting reports that relied on the strengths of both MySQL and Solr to front end only features that have enabled our users to search and sort through the tens of thousands of reviews to find the answers they’re looking for.

I love working on tough technical problems, helping out my team mates, and teaching others the things I’ve learned.
